Chloe Steepe

Chloe Steepe, outdoors enthusiast and Medtronic pump user since 2002:
In the summer of 2000, Chloe Steepe was completing a high school biology course in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands when her normally perfect health rapidly deteriorated. Almost unrecognizable to her parents when they picked her up at the airport, they rushed her to the hospital where she was diagnosed with severe ketoacidosis. A week later she was out of the hospital and ready to resume her life, undeterred by her diagnosis with Type 1 diabetes. She started using a Medtronic insulin pump during her first year at university and has been enjoying the freedom it gives her ever since.

“My Paradigm® pump and I have backpacked through Europe, competed in intramural hockey, and spent countless hours at the gym. As an outdoor enthusiast, the pump has given me the flexibility to complete a week-long Outward Bound kayaking course, many canoe and camping trips, and other outdoor adventures such as climbing, hiking, and mountain biking hundreds of kilometers in the Rocky Mountains of B.C. and Alberta. It’s allowed me the freedom to embrace my diabetes and overcome the challenges it brings with ease, to push boundaries and make sudden changes to daily plans, be they on campus or on the trail.”
