Pierre-Luc Giroux is a normal 13-year-old boy with dreams and aspirations like every other kid. Ever since the age of nine, his passion has been golf, and the dream of someday playing on the PGA Tour. Having diabetes means Pierre-Luc has to keep an eye on his glucose levels. He knows that controlling his highs and lows is the key to keeping his game together on the course.
“Golf requires more than just athletic ability, you need to be able to concentrate, as well. I’ve had type 1 diabetes since the age of 5, and my biggest weakness, with regards to my favourite sport, is the management of my diabetes. Glucose highs and lows can effect my concentration, both socially and during golf tournaments.”
In the fall of 2005, Pierre-Luc’s parents suggested insulin pump technology as a better way to manage his diabetes. After careful research and discussions with their healthcare professional, they chose the MiniMed Paradigm® insulin punp from Medtronic.
“Thanks to my pump, it’s much easier to manage my diabetes. I don’t need multiple daily injections anymore, and I have better control over my glucose levels. I notice far fewer highs and lows, and my concentration is better; that helps a lot with my golf, and my studies at school.
I really want to thank Medtronic for researching and developing diabetes technology. Your Paradigm® pump, and all of the accessories that come with it, really contribute to a better quality of life for me. With the help of my parents training and Medtronic technology, I may realize my PGA dream someday, thanks!”
